Mi nombre es José Luis López Redondo. De mí nombre deriva el acrónimo de la firma de mis obras: “JLopezRed”.
Nací en Madrid en agosto de 1953. Estudie los dos bachilleratos en el colegio de los Agustinos de la calle Padre Damián. De joven tuve dudas sobre que debía estudiar y dedicar mi vida. Pensé en estudiar Medicina o Biología o Bellas Artes, entre otras cosas; pero al final prevaleció mi deseo por viajar y conocer mundo, quizás por mi pasión por la lectura y porque mi padre tenía un amigo práctico del puerto de Santander que había sido marino mercante y me contaba algo de su vida.
Así que decidí ser marino mercante y me matricule en la Escuela de Marina Civil de Portugalete en Bilbao, con bastante oposición de mis padres. En esta etapa de mi vida estuve navegando casi sin parar desde 1973 hasta 1984 en varias clases de buques.
Tras pocos años de quedarme en tierra firme, como decimos los ex-marinos, me volvió a renacer mi pasión por el dibujo y la pintura. Por ello, asistí a clases de pintura en dos academias, primero en Soto Mesa y después en el Taller Del Prado, ambas en Madrid, en donde conocí a mi maestro y, después, gran amigo Hanoos.
La pintura para mí surge como una necesidad interior, como expuso Kandisky en su libro de “Lo espiritual en el arte”, de cuyo contenido me siento totalmente identificado. Considero que, en relación a la finalidad de la pintura en el plano social, no solamente trata de ilustrar o sorprender. Para mí resulta muy importante agradar y buscar la belleza, como la música que se introduce directamente en nuestro interior y nos hace sentir, alegrarnos, bailar o raramente entristecernos.
Por estos motivos me gusta hacer una pintura que tienda a ser alegre, colorida e incluso decorativa. Sí, decorativa, aunque ciertos puristas del arte lo detesten. En consecuencia me centro en el color y las formas. Busco la belleza intentando armonizar color y formas mediante el orden y la composición.
Utilizo colores primarios y secundarios, junto con colores pasteles y bastante matizados. Nunca utilizó colores recién salidos del tubo. Me preparo mis propias mezclas. Respecto a las formas, generalmente me centro en formas geométricas; a veces puras, como los triángulos, los cuadrados y rectángulos, los rombos y también los círculos y los arcos; también empleo otras formas geométricas irregulares. De estas formas irregulares surge el propósito de definir mi propia línea, mi camino.

I was born in Madrid in August 1953. I studied both baccalaureates at the Agustinos school on Padre Damián street. As a young man I had doubts that I should study and dedicate my life. I thought about studying Medicine or Biology or Fine Arts, among other things; but in the end my desire to travel and see the world prevailed, perhaps because of my passion for reading and because my father had a practical friend from the port of Santander who had been a merchant seaman and told me something about his life.
So I decided to be a merchant sailor and enrolled in the Portugalete Civil Marine School in Bilbao, with much opposition from my parents. At this stage of my life I was sailing almost non-stop from 1973 to 1984 on various classes of ships.
After a few years of staying on the mainland, as ex-sailors say, my passion for drawing and painting was reborn. For this reason, I attended painting classes in two academies, first in Soto Mesa and later in the Del Prado Workshop, both in Madrid, where I met my teacher and, later, a great friend Hanoos.
Painting for me arises as an interior necessity, as Kandisky explained in his book "The spiritual in art", from whose content I feel totally identified. I consider that, in relation to the purpose of painting on the social level, it is not only about illustrating or surprising. It is very important to me to please and seek beauty, like the music that is introduced directly into our interior and makes us feel, rejoice, dance or rarely be sad.
For these reasons I like to make a painting that tends to be cheerful, colorful and even decorative. Yes, decorative, although some art purists hate it. Consequently I focus on color and shapes. I look for beauty trying to harmonize color and shapes through order and composition.
He used primary and secondary colors, along with pastel and quite nuanced colors. He never used colors fresh from the tube. I prepare my own mixes. Regarding shapes, I generally focus on geometric shapes; sometimes pure, like triangles, squares and rectangles, rhombuses and also circles and arcs; I also use other irregular geometric shapes. From these irregular shapes arises the purpose of defining my own line, my path.
